Heyn Engineering has been managing vessels for nearly 200 years. At present, Heyn Engineering Solutions are responsible for the management and maintenance of the Research Vessel CORYSTES.
The RV CORYSTES is owned by the
Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) and operates out of the Port of Belfast. It provides a versatile platform from which a wide range of fisheries and marine environmental research is undertaken.
The vessel has year round capability and enables AFBI to conduct an integrated marine science programme in Northern Ireland’s coastal waters, the Irish Sea and adjacent sea areas.
Heyn Engineering is responsible for the day-to-day running, management and maintenance of the ship. The Heyn crew complement at sea is 12 (5 officers and 7 crew members). Full 24 hour operation is available routinely including deployment and recovery of various trawl and benthic sampling gear and beam Trawl. Marine habitat mapping is possible through use of underwater imaging equipment and state of the art multi-beam acoustic equipment.
The RV CORYSTES is available for chartering and commercial third party hire.

Artist-at-Sea Project
During August and September 2015, AFBI and the Heyn Crew welcomed an artist on board as part of the Artist-At-Sea project. Alice Clark was on board the Corystes as part of the first in a series of residences facilitated by Catalyst Arts, allow artists to develop work within a site and context specifically tailoured to their individual practice.
Details of Clarks residency and her on board findings on the Irish Sea, as well as detailed photos and information can be found by viewing her blog. Simply click this link to see the blog in full.
