Keep Fall and Protection Equipment Covid-19 compliant and operational

    Engineering 19/08/2020
During these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is important to remember that all the equipment being used is cleaned, disinfected and maintained regularly to insure any potential risk of the Covid-19 infection is reduced and kept to a minimum.

As the Tractel agents for Northern Ireland, Heyn recommend the following cleaning and disinfection procedure to keep your equipment operational and safe during this time.
Tractel products must not be cleaned or disinfected with Hydroalcoholic gel as it could damage the equipment.  No chemicals are tolerated on the Tractel products.  The only products tested and recommended for cleaning and disinfecting are soap and water.
**Be sure to inspect your washed products thoroughly before use**
For those tasked with cleaning the Tractel equipment should be provided with gloves, a mask and goggles.  Their hands should be properly washed before and after cleaning the equipment.

Heyn understand that the Tractel equipment can be used by individuals and a number of operators.  So with that in mind two procedures have been put in place:

    Individual and Personal Equipment:
This is equipment used by one operator only with no one else using or touching this equipment.  For cleaning your products you can wash them in water, or you can choose to disinfect your equipment regularly using the following guidelines:

    Cleaning the Equipment
    • Fall protection equipment must be handled with care
    • Wash with water (max 30°C) with soap or detergent for delicate textiles.  For hard to remove dirt and stains use a synthetic brush
    • Let the equipment dry naturally in a well ventilated, dry place, in the shade, without contact with any heat source
    • When dry store the equipment in a Tractel bag

    Disinfecting the Equipment

    • Immerse the equipment (except automatic fall arresters) for 30 minutes in 60°C water
    • For automatic fall arresters devices, clean with products containing ethanol or isopropanol
    • Let the equipment dry naturally in a well ventilated, dry place, in the shade, without contact with any heat source
    • When dry store the equipment in a Tractel bag

    Shared/Multi Operator Equipment use:
When the same equipment is being used by a number of operators, it would be good practice in during this pandemic to isolate the equipment after each use or disinfect the equipment after every use.  Tractel recommend the following guidelines:

    Isolation of the Equipment

    • Isolate the product for seven days in a closed plastic bag in a well ventilated, shady dry place with no direct contact with a heat source.
    • Clean the product with water (maximum temperature of 30°C) with soap or detergent for delicate textiles. For hard to remove dirt and stains use a synthetic brush
    • Let the equipment dry naturally in a well ventilated, dry place, in the shade, without contact with any heat source
    • Store in a Tractel bag

    Disinfecting the Equipment
    • Immerse the equipment (except automatic fall arresters) for 30 minutes in 60°C water
    • For automatic fall arresters devices, clean with products containing ethanol or isopropanol
    • Let the equipment dry naturally in a well ventilated, dry place, in the shade, without contact with any heat source
    • When dry store the equipment in a Tractel bag
